VIP-Very Involved Parents : The CEO of the family

The impression everyone has of Six Sigma projects is excellence - achieving 100%, anything less is not acceptable, Yes? Yes and No. Yes because that is what the methodology is designed to achieved. No because in reality, top management is taking advantage of Six Sigma to jumpstart the improvement in the processes and also turn company around. The more dire the situation, the more value would Six Sigma bring to the company. If there is no fire, who bothers to fight fire?

I led Six Sigma projects in a multinational corporation as a Six Sigma Black Belt. I believe in Six Sigma and the beauty of its methodology. However, the key to Six Sigma is PEOPLE. Six Sigma is about change. Change is a constant that few people feel comfortable with. Six Sigma can create a lot of tension if not manage properly. I lead successful projects and I had my share of failed projects. One of the main reasons for success or failure is the involvement and commitment of the Senior Management, Leader in Six Sigma terminology. Six Sigma must be implemented top-down. In my view, results can surely be achieve via high-handedness. Look at Jack Welch, the former CEO of General Electric. Quality is achieved through a visionary like him. He has a vision of what he want GE to become, and he got his management to deploy Six Sigma to drive GE to success. The implementation of Six Sigma is rigorous and depending on the situation, Six Sigma can be ruthless.

Let’s face it; we are and always will be in Survival of the Fittest World.

What is the vision you have of your child? Does your child share that vision? How can Six Sigma be used to help you share your vision with your child?

Parents want the best for their children. The recent hoo-ha about Amy Chua, aka Tiger Mum, is interesting as she shared her views on how she coaches her children towards success. The execution of Six Sigma on Children may sound cold and ruthless to some. But when the methodology is implemented well, it is possible you jumpstart your Child success story.
